Issuing Mobile-ID is continuing and will become more convenient than before

The new five-year contract brings three major updates.

We recently wrote about the state postponing the search for the service provider for the Mobile-ID solution. For the time being, however, the search for a new solution has been abandoned and a new contract has been entered into, according to which Mobile-ID will continue as before, i.e. as a means of national identification. The Information System Authority (ISA) and the certification service provider SK ID Solutions (SK) have entered into a five-year contract for the provision of Mobile-ID service, which will enter into force on 2 July.
The main motivation for the entry into the new contract is the recognition that it is no longer possible to develop a new solution in six months. At present, there is no new technological solution offered, which would adapt to the conditions of the Estonian e-state without major developments.

With the entry into the new contract, there will be three changes that make life more convenient from 2 July:

• Mobile-ID can be issued entirely online. For this, you must log into the mobile operator’s self-service portal using your ID card. Once the new SIM-card has arrived in the mail, you need to sign the Mobile-ID application.
• From 2 July, minors from the age of 7 can also apply for a Mobile-ID with a legal guardian.
• A person has the opportunity to have several different Mobile-IDs associated with different SIM-cards.

All previously issued Mobile-IDs are valid until the end of their five-year period of validity and can still be used in e-services.
